Surface treatment on US 285 to take place in La Jara next week

CONEJOS COUNTY ― Motorists are reminded they will encounter lane shifts and periodic stops on U.S. Highway 285 from Antonito to just south of Alamosa (MP 6.5 to 27). Next week, Monday, Sept. 23 through Thursday Sept. 26, the paving operations will be taking place in the village of La Jara, as well as three miles north and two miles south of the community. 

HIGHWAY TRAVEL IMPACTS 

Motorists will encounter work on US 285 from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The public should expect delays up to 15 minutes. Please allow extra time in your commutes. A width restriction is in place for wide loads over 12 feet.

 

REMEMBER: SLOW FOR THE CONE ZONE

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.

  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.

  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.

  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.

  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.

  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.

  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.

  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.

  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.

  • Be patient!
