I-25 Ilex project bridge work will require temporary lane reconfigurations, lane and ramp closures

September 25, 2019 - Southeastern Colorado

PUEBLO COUNTY —On Sunday, September 29th, northbound nighttime motorists traveling on I-25 near D Street and City Center Drive will encounter alternating lane closures, as a traffic shift is put in place. The traffic shift is required as crews prepare for replacement of the bridge’s expansion joint. The northbound closure on Sunday will occur from 7:00 p.m. to Monday at 6:00 a.m. The northbound D Street off-ramp and the northbound City Center Drive on-ramp will be closed, with signage to direct travelers to open on and off-ramps.

Once the northbound traffic shift is in place, daytime operations will begin on the bridge from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, September 30th. Maintenance on the bridge is expected to be complete in early October. Speeds are reduced to 45 miles an hour in the construction zone, and motorists can expect minimal delays on I-25. Southbound I-25 traffic will not be impacted.

The I-25 Ilex Street to City Center Drive project is the first project of the New Pueblo Freeway – the reconstruction of I-25 between City Center Drive and Ilex Street through downtown Pueblo. Construction includes upgrading several bridges south of downtown. The project began in July 2015, and is scheduled to be fully complete by Fall of 2019.
