Full weekend closure of Colfax Ave (US 40) ramps to northbound I-225 set to begin this Friday (Oct. 4)

October 3, 2019 - Denver Metro Area, Colorado - Closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and lanes will be open to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday

AURORA  On Friday, October 4, at 9 p.m. until Monday, October 7, at 5 a.m., crews will close the Colfax Avenue (US 40) ramps to northbound Interstate 225 as part of an intersection improvements project in Aurora. Detours are estimated to take approximately 5 minutes extra and a maximum of an additional 2.75 miles.

This weekend-long closure allows construction crews to safely complete paving operations and reduce the long-term impacts to the public by completing this work in one weekend.

Work on the project began in late August. The project consists of replacing curb ramps, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, traffic signals, and improving left-turn lane configurations at two Colfax Ave. intersections, Chambers Road, and I-225. Crews will also be widening ramps at the I-225 and Colfax intersection, and replace traffic signals and sidewalks at the intersection of Tower Road and Interstate 70.

WORK SCHEDULE AND TRAVEL IMPACTS

During the ramp closures, motorists can use the following routes:

  • Westbound Detour – Friday, October 4, 9 p.m. to Monday, October 7, 5 a.m.:  Westbound Colfax traffic will be detoured onto northbound Fitzsimmons Parkway and use the 17th Place ramps to access I-225. This detour length is less than a half mile.
  • Eastbound detour – Friday, October 4, 9 p.m. to Monday, October 7, 5 a.m.:  Eastbound Colfax traffic can use Fitzsimmons Parkway and 17th Place ramps. Another alternate route directs motorists to northbound Chambers Road and I-70.

These operations are site-condition and weather dependent, and this schedule could change and include additional night shifts.
