I-70 westbound to reopen by 6:00 p.m.

November 29, 2019 - Denver Metro Area, Colorado

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY ― CDOT is reopening westbound I-70, though travelers should take care as winter weather and strong winds move through the area. Mitigation teams were successful in removing unsafe rocks to restore traffic, and cleanup activities are complete for today.

We appreciate just how disruptive and frustrating these closures were on a long holiday weekend,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “Every Colorado resident and visitor can appreciate the draw of the mountains during the winter, and our crews do everything possible to keep roads safe for everyone to travel.  We thank everyone for their patience as the CDOT team works to respond to rockfall on I-70 so we can keep the road safe for travelers.”

Travelers should continue to check www.cotrip.org and plan ahead before heading out for a destination.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Travelers are urged to “know before you go.” Gather information about weather forecasts and anticipated travel impacts and current road conditions prior to hitting the road. CDOT resources include:

WHOLE SYSTEM. WHOLE SAFETY.

Earlier this year, CDOT announced its Whole System — Whole Safety initiative to heighten safety awareness. This initiative takes a systematic, statewide approach to safety combining the benefits of CDOT’s programs that address driving behaviors, our built environment and the organization's operations. The goal is to improve the safety of Colorado’s transportation network by reducing the rate and severity of crashes and improving the safety of all transportation modes. The program has one simple mission—to get everyone home safely.
