Phase Two of I-70 Barrier Project underway Next Week

March 26, 2019 -

JEFFERSON COUNTY  The Colorado Department of Transportation begins replacing median barrier along Interstate 70 between the Morrison Road and C-470 interchanges on Monday, April 1.

Drivers can expect lane shifts and single lane and shoulder closures on eastbound and westbound I-70 during the following time periods:

  • Daytime eastbound hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Nighttime eastbound hours: 6 p.m.to 5:30 a.m.

  • Daytime westbound hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Nighttime westbound hours: 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph through the work zone and motorists should use caution as trucks will be entering and exiting the project area.

Construction continues through late April 2019.  However, the project is weather-dependent and the schedule could be extended.

Phase One of the project replaced median barrier along I-70 between the Lookout Mountain and Chief Hosa interchanges and the area west the of I-70/I-270 Interchange, and on the east side of the Quebec St. overpass.

Median barriers enhance public safety by physically separating opposing traffic streams and help stop vehicles from traveling into the opposing traffic lanes.

Cruz Construction Co. of Colorado Springs, is the contractor for the $1.8 million project.
