US 550 Mountain Corridor Closed Due to Snow Storm and Avalanche Concern

― SOUTHWEST CO TRAVEL ALERT ―

DURANGO ― The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has closed the US Highway 550 mountain corridor north of Durango, due to adverse weather and avalanche concerns. The closure includes all three mountain passes, Coal Bank, Molas and Red Mountain. Vehicles will be stopped just north of Purgatory Ski Resort, at Silverton and on the south side of Ouray.

There is no estimated time of opening the highway.

CDOT also alerts travelers and area residents that avalanche control operations will be needed on all three mountain passes, once weather conditions permit, required additional closures of the highway.
