DURANGO HOLIDAY TRAFFIC UPDATE HIGH BRIDGE PROJECT
In an effort to continue to make progress toward completion of the US 160/550 high bridge maintenance project, but to also allow crews time with family over the holiday season, the following work schedule is announced.
This week, prior to Christmas
-
Today, Dec. 19 through Sunday, Dec. 22, work will take place.
Christmas week
-
Monday, Dec. 23 - Thursday, Dec. 26, no work (or limited work) is expected.
-
Friday, Dec. 27 - through Monday, Dec. 30, work will resume.
New Year’s week
-
Tuesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 2, no work (or limited work) is expected.
-
Friday, Jan. 3 and Saturday, Jan 4, work will resume.
Please note, much work will take place on the weekends through the holidays. Despite the limited work activity on holiday week days, the single lane traffic configuration over the bridge remains in effect day and night (24/7). Project completion is anticipated to be mid to late January.
Wide loads, over 12 ft., are not permitted through the project limits. Single lane traffic restrictions at the bridge continue to help construction efforts and maintain safety for both crews and motorists.
PLEASE ZIPPER MERGE!
As traffic narrows to one lane at the bridge work zone, CDOT instructs drivers to use both lanes all the way to the merge point. This traffic pattern, also known as a “zipper or late merge,” allows for smoother more efficient merging and less stop-and-go traffic. (YouTube video: How to merge in a work zone)
