I-70 in Grand Junction Median Improvement Project Starts Sept. 10
MESA COUNTY—On Monday, Sept. 10, CDOT will start making safety improvements on an urban stretch of I-70 in Grand Junction, between mile points 30 and 32. Crews will replace and install cable rails and guardrail along the center median and shoulders to bring safety measures up to current standards.
Travel Impacts
- Work hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Expect alternating lane shifts and closures in both directions of I-70.
- The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.
The project involves removing 4,520 linear feet of type 3 guardrail (median and shoulders)—including end anchors and transitions—and replacing it with 3,045 linear feet of updated type 3 guardrail, and 1,476 linear feet of type 3 guardrail (double), with new end anchors, transitions and median terminals.
CDOT and contractor Cruz Construction expect to complete this approximately $711,000 project in December 2018. These operations are weather-dependent, and the schedule may change.
