I-25-Rockrimmon Interchange Project Enters Final Phase With Shifts, Closures

Nov. 14, 2018 -

COLORADO SPRINGS—Starting Sunday, Nov. 18, crews on the I-25-Rockrimmon Road project will begin the final phase of project work, which includes removing the northbound traffic shift and split lanes.

From the Rockrimmon Boulevard off-ramp (exit 138) to the I-25 Woodmen Drive off-ramp (exit 139), travelers in both directions of I-25 will use the outside shoulders so crews can move lanes away from the median and allow for work in that area.

Expect overnight lane closures in both directions of I-25 between Garden of the Gods and Woodmen roads as crews prepare the next configuration. There may be only one through lane in this area. Use extreme caution.

Other Closures

  • From 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. both Sunday, Nov. 18 and Monday, Nov. 19, expect single- and double-lane closures at northbound I-25 between Garden of the Gods and Woodmen roads.
  • From 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, expect double-lane closures at southbound I-25 between Woodmen and Garden of the Gods roads.

Travel Impacts

The Phase 4 final configuration, which will be in place until project completion, will complete the ride improvements on the northbound I-25 lanes. Motorists can expect to see median work—including drainage modifications, median paving and bridge maintenance.

  • Most work will take place Monday through Friday, though some weekend work may be required.
  • At daytime, there will be three I-25 travel lanes in each direction.
  • The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.
    • Please drive the posted speed, be cautious and attentive, and avoid distractions.
  • At night, intermittent lane closures may be required.
  • Construction schedules are subject to change based on weather/unforeseen circumstances.
  • Lane restriction times may fluctuate; watch for weekly travel alerts with the most up-to-date information.

Project Info

CDOT started this bridge and driving-surface-preventative-maintenance project on 10 bare concrete bridges near the I-25 Rockrimmon interchange to improve safety and ride quality. This project is part of the ongoing CDOT Asset Management/Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program that began approximately 10 years ago to extend the life of the state's bridges to 75 years.
