CDOT Begins Lighting Project On US 550 Red Mountain Pass Snow Shed Tunnel

OURAY COUNTY—Crews on Monday, May 7 will begin making lighting improvements on the US Highway 550 snow shed tunnel between Silverton and Ouray. The project—approximately eight miles north of the Red Mountain Pass summit—is expected to be complete in July 2018.
CDOT and contractor Main Electric will replace the old, out-of-date lighting system with new LED energy-efficient lighting. Specifically, crews will remove the existing lighting and electrical circuit, and replace the interior snow shed lighting and associated electrical wiring.
Travel & Access Impacts
- Working hours will be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Northbound and southbound travelers can expect one-lane alternating traffic during working hours with minimal delays.
- Please drive cautiously and be aware of traffic directions, crews and equipment in the area.
