March 26 Open House Slated for US 34 Business Route Project in East Greeley
GREELEY—A community meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on March 26 to discuss the impacts of the road resurfacing and bridge repair work currently underway on US 34 Business (E. 18th Street).
The meeting will be in the conference room at the Greeley-Weld County Airport, at 600 Airport Road. Residents and commuters will be able to talk individually to CDOT officials and representatives from the contractor, Hamilton Construction Co.
Work began on the project earlier this month, but major traffic impacts are not expected until April. The project is expected to be complete in November.
There are two goals associated with this project:
- Roadway resurfacing from U.S. 85 along East 18th Street to the diagonal where US 34D and US 34 meet—approximately three miles of surface
- Bridge repair where US 34D crosses the South Platte River, which is part of the federal emergency efforts brought about by the 2013 flood damage
Additionally, the project includes upgrading curb ramps at 1st Avenue and East 18th Street to provide better access for persons with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Schedule
Work on US 34D began on Monday, March 5 with a completion scheduled for November. Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. In special cases these hours may be extended.
Weekend work is not anticipated.
Traffic Impacts
While resurfacing is underway, pedestrians and motorized vehicles should expect shoulder, sidewalk, lane and turn pocket closures.
Bridge repair is scheduled to begin in June. Travelers can expect a full closure of US 34D while work commences. An approximate five-motnh detour will be in place during the closure. Prior to the bridge work starting, an occasional closure may take place in preparation for the project.
