COLORADO SPRINGS—
Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Company, LLC has been awarded work on the I-25/Rockrimmon Bridge Preventative Maintenance Project. The $12 million project includes bridge and driving surface preventative maintenance, safety and ride-quality improvements.

The project involves maintenance of 10 interstate bridges surrounding the Rockrimmon/N. Nevada interchange complex. Work will take place on I-25 between the Garden of the Gods and Woodmen Road interchanges. Bridge maintenance includes expansion joint replacement, waterproofing membrane installation, and installing asphalt overlays to protect bridge decks.

In addition, crews will address driving surface preventive maintenance. They also will replace concrete panels where needed to extend the serviceable life of the pavement along I-25. Safety improvements include upgraded guardrail, restriping and patching in some areas. This project will not impact the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail along I-25.

"This project is part of the ongoing CDOT Asset Management/Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program that began approximately 10 years ago to extend the life of the state's bridge structures to 75 years," said CDOT Resident Engineer Dave Watt. Additional local bridge projects that have benefited from this program include bridges on Woodmen Road, US 24, Colorado Avenue and Milton Proby Parkway.

"Along with extending the life of the bridge structures and the overall payment along I-25, we will be addressing settlement that has occurred, resulting in a smoother ride for the traveling public," Watt said.

More than six contractor teams submitted proposals. Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Company, LLC provided the best pricing estimate for the project.

Pre-construction activity and surveying will begin in the I-25/Rockrimmon area next week. Actual construction impacts are expected to start in mid-March. The majority of construction work will take place Monday through Friday; however, some weekend work may be required to complete the project in one construction season by the December 2018 goal.
