June 18, 2018 - Recovery site located near Ophir Pass Road and motorists can expect delays

A semi truck and trailer will be pulled up onto the highway from where it crashed two weeks ago. The recovery operation will require CO 145 to be closed intermittently on Wednesday evening, June 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

SOUTHWEST COLORADO ― The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be temporarily closing Colorado Highway (CO) 145 south of Telluride on Wednesday of this week. A tow company will be pulling a semi truck and trailer up onto the highway on June 20, Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. Earlier this month, the commercial vehicle crashed at the site, located at approximately mile point 66 about five miles south of Society Turn roundabout and near the Ophir Pass Road curve.

The five-hour recovery operation requires a full closure of CO 145 because of the steep grade of the slope at the crash site. Traffic will be allowed through only intermittently and motorists may want to consider avoiding the area, traveling earlier in the day or postponing travel until the next day.

Motorists are urged to watch for signage, flaggers, workers and heavy equipment at the recovery zone.
