Increased Truck Traffic for Median Paving on I-25/Rockrimmon Bridge Preventative Maintenance Project

June 12, 2018 -

COLORADO SPRINGS – Paving is scheduled to begin on the Interstate-25/Rockrimmon-Nevada interchange the week of June 17. The paving will occur on the I-25 median between Garden of the Gods and Woodmen Roads (approximately milepost 146-148). The majority of work will take place behind the barriers during the day, Monday through Friday.

There will be increased truck traffic accessing the work zone to deliver paving equipment and material. “The traveling public should use caution when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should drive the posted speed of 55 MPH,” said CDOT Resident Engineer Dave Watt.

The Phase 1 current configuration on I-25 will remain in place until mid-July. Motorists can expect to see median work, including barrier placement, median paving, lighting and bridge deck repair. In mid-July Phase 2 will begin and will result in a change to the current configuration.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has initiated a bridge and driving surface preventative maintenance project on ten bare concrete bridges near the Interstate-25 Rockrimmon interchange that will improve safety and ride quality. This project is part of the ongoing CDOT Asset Management / Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program that began approximately ten years ago to extend the life of the state’s bridge structures to 75 years.
