US 6 Over Loveland Pass Closed to Most Vehicles from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. July 14 for Bicycle Tour

July 12, 2018 - Watch for Bicyclists from Bergen Park to Avon

JEFFERSON, CLEAR CREEK, SUMMIT & EAGLE COUNTIES—US Highway 6 over Loveland Pass will be closed to drivers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, as thousands of bicyclists participate in the Triple Bypass Bicycle Tour.

On Saturday, about 3,500 bicyclists will participate in the Tour over Loveland Pass, traveling west from Jefferson County, and through Clear Creek, Summit and Eagle counties to Avon.

The US 6 Saturday closure applies to all vehicles EXCEPT for hazardous materials trucks, which will be escorted over the pass as follows:

  • westbound escort at the top of the hour
  • eastbound escort at the bottom of the hour

Ride Route

In addition to US over Loveland Pass, the route for the ride includes:

  • Jefferson County 103/Colorado Highway 103 between Bergen Park and Idaho Springs;
  • the I-70 frontage roads through Vail; and
  • US 6 between Dowd Junction (US 6 and US 24 junction, west of Vail) and Avon.

The Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement will be monitoring and assisting with traffic control.

All travelers should use extra caution and share the road. Drivers must give cyclists at least three feet of space when passing—even if it requires crossing the center line, if it is safe—or risk a ticket.

Cyclists also must ride as far right as possible, and not impede traffic when passing other riders or riding two abreast.
