CDOT Expanding I-25 North Safety Patrol Program
DENVER—CDOT is adding another vehicle to its Motorist Safety Patrol Program along Interstate 25 through Northern Colorado.
Beginning Monday, July 16, an additional State Farm Safety Patrol vehicle will be patrolling the 40-mile segment of I-25 between Colorado Highway 7 and Colorado Highway 14, assisting stranded motorists, and providing traffic control and safety at incident scenes. It also will offer free, limited roadside assistance to drivers in need, including providing fuel; changing flat tires; jump-starting vehicles; providing lockout assistance; and moving vehicles to the shoulder or nearest interchange.
One Safety Patrol vehicle has been patrolling northern I-25 since May 2017.
"With traffic continuing to increase, it's important for us to add another vehicle to this busy stretch of I-25," said I-25 Acting Corridor Manager Steven Gillespie. "Another vehicle will help to reduce congestion, help enhance safety and, if a driver has a problem, provide them with the assistance they need."
CDOT State Farm Safety Patrol vehicles also patrol various highways in the Denver metropolitan area, and along I-25 between Denver and Colorado Springs. In addition to assisting stranded motorists, the Safety Patrol also helps the Colorado State Patrol work more safely and efficiently by providing back-up at incident scenes, and freeing troopers up to handle more urgent calls. The Safety Patrol also clears debris from the highway to improve traffic flow and prevent future incidents.
State Farm sponsors the Safety Patrol, providing financial support that offsets state funding for the program. The CDOT State Farm Safety Patrol assisted more than 30,000 motorists in 2017.
