Minor Traffic Impacts Expected for Today's Colorado Classic Bike Race
VAIL—Only minor impacts are anticipated to the state highway system as part of Stage Two of the Colorado Classic—a 9.9-mile time trial, beginning at Mountain Plaza, and traveling through East Vail and halfway up Vail Pass.
Travel Impacts
Closures begin at 8 a.m. and end at approximately 3 p.m., at the following locations:
- I-70 East Vail Interchange (Exit 180) off-ramps closed
- South Frontage Road closed east of Vail Valley Drive
- I-70 Frontage Road closed west of Bighorn Road (East Vail Interchange)
- Bighorn Road closed from East Vail Interchange to end of road
- Vail Pass Bike Path to Upper Runaway Truck Ramp
At 9 a.m., the following will be closed until approximately 3 p.m.:
- I-70 Upper Runaway Truck Ramp
- Right lane of westbound I-70 from top of Vail Pass to west of the Upper Runaway Truck Ramp
The women's race begins at 10 a.m. and continues until noon; the men's race goes from 12:30 to about 2:30 p.m.
The Colorado Classic, a four-stage men and women's professional bicycle race, continues through Sunday, Aug. 19, and CDOT's website—COtrip.org—will be assisting motorists that use the various state and local roadways that travel on or intersect with the race route. Information will include road closure and opening times, anticipated delays and parking information. Please be aware that delay and closure times are estimates only and subject to change depending on the pace of the race, weather, and other unanticipated conditions.
