Crews Complete I-70 Glenwood Canyon Rock Fence Improvements Ahead of Schedule

GARFIELD COUNTY—CDOT has completed a rock fence improvement project on Interstate 70, east of Glenwood Springs. The project started in late March 2018, and was completed ahead of schedule.

Crews on the project removed six existing flex post fences and replaced them with higher-capacity rockfall fences. The improved and higher-capacity rockfall fences will help to further mitigate the potential for rockfalls in the canyon, and will help prevent road damage or unexpected closures that could be caused by a natural rockslide.

The contractor selected for this $1.5 million, Rock Solid Solutions, completed the project under budget at $1.2 million.
