Two-Week Alternating Lane Closures on Eastbound I-70 in Vail Begin Monday, Sept. 11

Project work brings potential for night work

VAIL—
On Monday, Sept. 11, crews will start paving bridge deck along eastbound I-70 near mile point (MP) 174 as part of the I-70 Vail Underpass project. This work—which will require an around-the-clock eastbound lane closure for about two weeks—will increase the long-term durability and lifespan of the bridge, resulting in better long-term product for CDOT and the Town of Vail.

Other Travel Impacts

  • Due to the nature of the overlay work, night work will be required to minimize the overall impact to travelers.
  • The area beneath the underpass is closed to vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists.
  • The frontage roads will be in their current configuration until project completion.
    • the South Frontage Road will serve eastbound drivers only.
    • The North Frontage Road will serve westbound drivers only.

The I-70 Vail Underpass project is progressing on schedule and on budget. The bridge overlay work scheduled to occur next week signifies a push toward completing the project by the end of October.
