CDOT Postpones Work to Treat CO 142 in Southwest Colorado
COSTILLA & CONEJOS COUNTIES—CDOT has postponed work along Colorado Highway (CO) 142, from the Town of Romeo to the Town of San Luis, until spring 2018. The postponement is due to delays in receiving materials necessary to complete the work, which involves applying protective coating to a 34-mile stretch of the highway.
"We were concerned that delivery of the needed rock materials would be too late in the fall season," said Kenneth Quintana, CDOT deputy superintendent of maintenance. "Cooler temperatures will not allow the seal coat material to cure properly, which would cause the rock chips to be peeled off with snow removal operations during the upcoming winter season."
Project Info
When surface treatment begins in spring, work will take place from the CO 285 and CO 142 intersection in Romeo to the CO 159 and CO 142 intersection in San Luis (from mile points 0.00 to 33.52). Work will prolong the life of the road surface, and will be completed in the westbound and eastbound lanes.

Although no specific date has been announced, CDOT will release updated information to the public and media at least two weeks before the project begins next spring.
