Downtown Salida Intersection Improvement Project Coming Down the Home Stretch
SALIDA—Crews are working hard to complete the downtown Salida intersection improvement project, originally scheduled for completion on Oct. 20, 2017.
"When you're reconstructing an old road and waterline, you're bound to run into unexpected issues," said Mike Trujillo, project superintendent for Technology Constructors Inc., CDOT's partner on the project.
In addition to accommodating an already planned festival back in September and not closing the road sooner, the construction team also encountering problems with an old waterline.
According to Trujillo, "The longest delay came while installing the caissons, the support structures for the mast arm poles, when an unexpected large amount of rock was unearthed."
The new completion date is expected to be Nov. 14 with the next couple of weeks focusing on asphalt overlays, concrete pavement and final stripping.
