Emergency repairs will close one lane of southbound I-25 and off-ramp to Crossroads tonight
LARIMER COUNTY – On Monday, Nov. 27, at 9 p.m. construction crews will be closing a lane of southbound I-25 at the Crossroads Boulevard exit for emergency safety equipment repairs. The right lane and the off-ramp to Crossroads Boulevard will be closed for 4-5 hours to replace an impact attenuator that was damaged over the holiday weekend.
The construction project uses eight impact attenuators on the project. They are designed to be a crash cushion that works to reduce injuries to motorists when they hit a concrete barrier at fast speeds. The bridge replacement project over I-25 in Loveland is currently on schedule for an on-time completion in January 2018.
“At CDOT we are doing everything we can to reduce the amount of lives lost on our highways. These safety tools are designed to be hit first, slowing the car down before it hits a solid concrete barrier,” said CDOT Resident Engineer Chris Boespflug. “It’s important to get this replaced as promptly as possible.”
EXPECTED TRAFFIC IMPACTS: To replace the damaged safety equipment, the off-ramp to Crossroads Boulevard will need to be closed. A signed detour will be in place to guide motorists around the closure. To access Crossroads via southbound I-25, exit at CO 392 (Exit 262) and take either Boyd Lake Avenue or S. County Road 5/N. Fairgrounds Avenue south to Crossroads Blvd (see attached map).
Motorists should plan additional travel time to pass through the construction zone. Speed limits will be reduced in the construction zone for both the safety of the traveling public, as well as construction crews in the area.
