US 50 Blue Creek Reconstruction Project to Resume Next Week
GUNNISON COUNTY—On Monday, May 22, crews will resume work on the US 50 Blue Creek Reconstruction project after the winter shutdown that began in November 2016. Work will be done from mile point (MP) 121 to 123.5—between Gunnison and Montrose in Gunnison County.
Work on this project will continue through the summer with anticipated completion in September 2017.
Traffic Impacts
Normal working hours will be 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work may also occur, if needed and agreed upon.
During construction, crews will hold traffic for 10 minutes before releasing queues. Expect delays for up to or more than 10 minutes when traveling through the construction zone.
Driver should also expect lane shifts, lane closures and new traffic patterns throughout the project. Wide loads larger than 12 feet will be restricted through the work zone during working hours. The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph.
Background
This project will fully reconstruct this section of US 50 via roadway reconstruction, widening, landslide mitigation, culvert replacement, earthwork and erosion control. SEMA Construction is the prime contractor for this $7 million project.
