TRAFFIC ADVISORY:  I-70 Lane Closures Next Week; Heightened Frontage Road Activity on Vail Underpass Project

March 31, 2017 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - EAGLE COUNTY/VAIL — Beginning Monday, April 3, major construction resumes on the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Town of Vail’s I-70 Vail Underpass project.

Work hours during this project phase are anticipated to be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, however, since much of the work is weather-dependent, it may be necessary for crews to do additional nighttime and/or weekend work to stay on schedule.

I-70
From Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, expect alternating right and left lane closures on westbound and eastbound I-70. These alternating I-70 lane closures are scheduled to occur from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. along westbound I-70, and from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. along eastbound I-70. Please note, this schedule is subject to change based on next week's weather.

FRONTAGE ROADS

While all lanes will remain open for now, drivers might notice an increase in construction activity as work begins to build the one-way detours. These Frontage Road detours, scheduled to go into effect Monday, April 24, will operate exactly the same as they did last year with the North Frontage Road serving westbound drivers only from Lion’s Ridge Loop to Timber Ridge and the South Frontage Road serving eastbound drivers only from Cascade Resort to Cascade Crossing.

The I-70 Vail Underpass project will add an additional underpass near I-70 mile point 175, connecting the North and South Frontage Roads between the Vail Town Center and West Vail interchanges. The project does not construct additional I-70 exits/interchanges into the Town of Vail. The project is scheduled for completion by fall of 2017.
