Regional Contractor Conference Call regarding Grand Avenue Bridge Detour Friday, March 10, 2017 - 10:00am
The GAB team will be discussing traffic impacts during the Grand Avenue Bridge 2017 detour which is scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14.
“Individuals and organizations involved in construction activity are key stakeholders for the Grand Avenue Bridge project,” said Tom Newland, CDOT public information manager. “The GAB traffic detour will directly impact operational and logistical aspects of regional construction activity, so planning ahead and being aware of the impacts is critical for everyone working on projects south of the detour.”
It is anticipated that it will be particularly difficult to reduce traffic counts amongst this construction-focused stakeholder group due to the need to transport workers, equipment and materials, through the detour to up-valley projects.
This conference call provides an early opportunity to present critical information, answer questions and address concerns, well in advance of the actual detour. The goal is to help this specific stakeholder group to assess their needs, plan ahead and take action in preparation for August.
The detour will be in effect for approximately 95 days. When the new traffic bridge opens, it will be open to one-lane in each direction. The detour is designed to create minimal impacts, but is contingent on a 25 percent reduction in traffic. If that traffic reduction is not successful during peak hours, motorists can anticipate lengthy delays throughout the Glenwood Springs area.
