Expect Heavy Traffic on I-70 in Mesa County June 15-19
Yearly Country Jam event, starting Monday, typically sees increased eastbound traffic.
MESA COUNTY—From Thursday, June 15 through Monday, June 19, travelers can anticipate higher traffic volumes on eastbound I-70 near the Beavertail Tunnel (from mile point 48-52). During this time, crews will be making structural repairs and doing lighting work as part of the I-70 Beavertail Tunnel Lighting project.
Traffic Impacts
- Possible delays are expected on eastbound I-70 near the Beavertail Tunnel, from mile points 48-52.
- Please use full capacity of the interstate and take turns merging into a single lane at the merge point.
- "Late Merge" signs are part of a traffic-control program emphasizing the use of open lanes until a work zone's actual merge point.
- Drivers entering various work zones around the state on multi-lane highways may see signs directing drivers to:
- USE BOTH LANES DURING CONGESTION
- USE BOTH LANES TO MERGE POINT
- TAKE TURNS MERGE HERE
Detour
- Eastbound traffic will detour onto the single-lane service road, adjacent to the Beavertail Tunnel, along the canyon wall for 1.2 miles, then connect back onto I-70.
- The detour is necessary while crews perform structural repairs, concrete patching and add luminaire lighting.
