Crews Start Curb Ramp Work on US 287 (Federal Boulevard) Resurfacing Project
WESTMINSTER – On Monday, July 10, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor, Asphalt Specialties Co., will begin removing and replacing nine curb ramps with ADA-compliant ramps, and working on curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements on US 287 (Federal Boulevard), between West 104th and West 96th avenues. This work is a part of the US 287 (Federal Boulevard) Resurfacing Project and will improve pedestrians’ access and safety for motorists.
This construction work will require the following traffic and pedestrian impacts:
- Installing a pedestrian detour on the west side of US 287 (Federal Boulevard) between West 104th and West 96th avenues
- Limited or no-ADA-compliant (Americans with Disabilities Act) access to five southbound RTD bus stops
- Closing the West 102nd Avenue entrance to shopping center on the west side of US 287 (Federal Boulevard)
The impacts will be in effect through Friday, July 14. Closures are necessary to allow construction crews to safely remove and replace curb ramps and work on sidewalk upgrades for pedestrians.
Working hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
PEDESTRIAN AND MOTORIST IMPACTS
CDOT’s goal is to minimize impact of the traveling public and ensure that they have access to where they need to go at all times. Pedestrians on Federal Boulevard will be directed to West 104th Avenue or West 96th Avenue and to Lowell Boulevard.
Traffic will encounter right-lane closure on US 287 (Federal Boulevard) and West 102nd Avenue; and the entrance to Northpark Plaza shopping mall from US 287 (Federal Boulevard) will be closed at West 102nd Avenue.
RTD BUS STOPS IMPACT
From July 10 to July 14, RTD bus stops number 13692, 13780, 13778, 13694 and 21275 will be affected and will not have ADA-compliant access. These are southbound stops on Federal Blvd between 104th & 96th avenues.
