TRAFFIC ADVISORY: CDOT crews paving on CO 82 in Aspen next week
PITKIN COUNTY/ASPEN — Beginning Tuesday, August 1 Colorado Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be milling and paving several sections of CO 82 near the entrance to Aspen and in city limits. The work will greatly improve the surface condition on this stretch of highway. The following is information about the work occurring and the delays that should be expected:
TRAFFIC IMPACTS:
Tuesday, August 1: Crews will be milling existing asphalt for inbound (eastbound) lanes at the S-curve to the Hickory House, and then 1st Street to Aspen Street. Traffic control will be in place with one-lane in each direction. Work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., weather permitting.
Wednesday, August 2: Paving the areas mentioned above. Again, work will commence from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., weather permitting.
Thursday, August 3: Pave from Cemetery Lane to Castle Creek Bridge then Castle Creek Bridge to island. DETOUR & RFTA Details: Thursday work will require a detour down 7th Street to Smuggler for outbound (westbound) traffic. RFTA buses will travel into and out of Aspen over the Castle Creek Bridge with the assistance of flaggers. RFTA riders should anticipate some minor re-routing and/or closed bus stops within Aspen. Check your bus stop for signage.
“We understand Aspen is busy this time of year but it is imperative that we take advantage of making repairs to the highway surface while we can,” said Don Poole, CDOT Senior Maintenance Supervisor. “We encourage motorists that can avoid this section of town, while this working is taking place, to do so.”
