CDOT Intersection Improvement Project Underway on US 50 in Salida
SALIDA/CHAFFEE COUNTY—Crews on Monday started construction to improve the intersection of US Highway (US) 50 and Chaffee County Road (CR) 111, near Walmart. The improvements include replacing the span wire signal with permanent poles and mast arms, and establishing crossings and connecting existing sidewalks/trails to accommodate future sidewalk/trail extensions.
Additionally, the new intersection will include multi-modal improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as sidewalks and curbs that will be accessible to people with disabilities to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a federal law enacted in 2009.
Traffic Impacts
Daytime work hours will range from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Crews will be working on all four corners of the intersection to build structural supports for the new traffic signal.
For about a half mile—from mile point 220 to 220.55—the right lane will be closed on US 50 for eastbound traffic. There also will be a right-lane turn pocket closure at the intersection for westbound vehicles. Please watch for construction crews, heavy equipment and flaggers guiding traffic. Work at the intersection will take place through the month of August.
