Traffic to switch on I-25 at Crossroads Boulevard next week
LARIMER COUNTY – Beginning on Monday, Jan. 23, during nighttime hours (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.), the Colorado Department of Transportation will switch traffic on Interstate 25 at the Crossroads Boulevard exit. The switch is necessary for the demolition and replacement of the northbound bridge on I-25.
The new traffic alignment involves moving northbound traffic onto the current southbound lanes. Southbound traffic will move to a temporary bridge, located on the west side of the interstate. This alignment will remain in place until the northbound bridge is removed and replaced, expected to be summer of 2017.
The use of this temporary bridge reduces installation time and creates a safer working environment for construction crews. Motorists, meanwhile, can travel through the construction zone with minimal diversions.
“This project demonstrates an innovation in bridge construction for CDOT,” said Project Engineer Jim Hoffman. “Although we will be removing two 500-ton bridges and replacing them with entirely new structures, the traveling public will be minimally impacted.”
RL Wadsworth of Colorado is the contractor for this $22.1 million project.
In the summer of 2017, both northbound and southbound traffic will shift to the new northbound bridge, while the southbound bridge is removed and replaced. The temporary bridge will also be removed at that time.
EXPECTED PROJECT TRAFFIC IMPACTS: During nighttime hours (9 p.m. – 5 a.m.) from Monday, Jan. 23, through Thursday, Jan. 26, there will be various lane closures in both northbound and southbound directions on I-25. On- and off-ramps at Crossroads Boulevard (exit 259) will also be closed periodically. Please allow additional commuting time to drive through the project. Some additional lane closures are expected at night and will be communicated on both the CDOT website and via CDOT’s alert system.
DETOUR INFORMATION: In the event of ramp closure, motorists are encouraged to use either Highway 34 (exit 257) or East County Road 32 (exit 262) to navigate around the project. Both routes will add approximately five minutes of travel time.
PROJECT INFORMATION: If you have questions about the project, please contact the public information team. You will receive a response within 24 business hours.
