February 17, 2017 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - CDOT, Contractor to Provide Information about Project Impacts: US 160 & 550 Concrete Rehabilitation through Durango

DURANGO — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor, Acme Concrete Paving of Spokane, WA, will host a public open house next week to provide information and answer questions about the upcoming highway-improvement project on US 160/US 550 through Durango.

The public open house will be held next Thursday, February 23, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the CDOT Maintenance Training Room, located at 20581 US 160 West (next door to the Colorado State Patrol building).   

US Highways 160 and 550 through downtown and north Durango will undergo a concrete pavement rehabilitation project beginning the week of March 6, weather permitting. The project area will impact Durango’s main business corridor, from Tech Center Dr., on US 160 just west of the US 160/550 intersection, to Animas View Dr. (3800 block,) on US 550 north of Durango. The project is expected to last approximately three months, with the intent of completing the work prior to the Memorial Day holiday weekend at the end of May.

At the open house, the public will get information on:

  • The prime contractor: ACME Concrete Paving Inc., of Spokane, WA.   

  • Benefits of the project:

    • Prolonged life of the current concrete pavement

    • Enhanced highway safety for all users

    • Improved roadway smoothness

    • Restored skid resistance of the pavement surface  

    • Replacement and/or repairs of the damaged concrete pavement

    • Removal of conflicting stripe and pavement marking “shadows”

    • Installation of new pavement markings with bike lanes

  • Travel and access impacts
