**PROJECT COMPLETE** CO 184 Narraguinnep Canal Replacement Project Now Completed
The job, which was located north of Cortez on CO 184 approximately 1 mile east of US Highway 491, started in early November 2016.
CDOT and Structures, Inc. removed the old, narrow and deteriorating timber bridge structure and replaced it with a concrete box culvert, installed new guardrail, and added a new approach to the structure. See attached photos.
“CDOT and the contractor appreciate the patience of the local residents and the traveling public during this extended project, as we encountered some weather related delays,” said Jason Voorhees, CDOT project engineer. “Projects scheduled during the winter months can be a challenge because you cannot always predict the inclement weather conditions of rain, snow and freezing temperatures that can halt construction.”
Voorhees added that despite the setback, the project remained within the $2 million budget.
To take advantage of the road closure CDOT maintenance crews also replaced an additional culvert at a separate location, approximately 1/5 of a mile east of US 491. The maintenance operation took about a week to complete.
