Expect Continued Construction Impacts for I-25 Arapahoe Road Project

GREENWOOD VILLAGE—The Interstate 25 and Arapahoe Road Interchange Reconstruction project team made substantial progress in 2016, and motorists can expect substantial construction—especially on Arapahoe Road—through summer 2018, when the project is scheduled for completion.

The rate of progress over the next couple of months is dependent on weather and the unpredictable amount of snowfall in early spring.

Some of the key construction elements in the upcoming months include:

  • Various activities related to the final phase of the I-25 bridge;
  • Continued noise wall construction along Arapahoe Road and Yosemite Street;
  • Retaining wall work on the south side of Arapahoe Road;
  • Various utility relocations;
  • Constructing the new eastbound Arapahoe Road lanes and shifting traffic to the new alignment;
  • Various I-25 ramp closures for new pavement construction;
  • Bridge aesthetics including monument and terrace wall installation
  • Shifting southbound I-25 traffic onto the new bridge;
  • Building permanent I-25 median barrier;
  • Final top coating of asphalt on I-25;
  • Final landscaping; and
  • Permanent lighting and traffic signals.

Some of the major accomplishments thus far include:

  • Two out of three phases of I-25 bridge construction are complete.
  • Crews removed the old I-25 bridge crossing Arapahoe Road.
  • Crews completed multiple utility relocations.
  • Crews conducted retaining wall work, and improved access to businesses in the northeast quadrant by opening the new South Alton Way.

The project team reminds motorists to allow extra time for your commute, adhere to speed reductions on I-25 and Arapahoe Road, and avoid distractions. Alternate routes are advised. Watch for weekly construction update emails (available by request via email) with the most up-to-date information regarding traffic impacts.
