Construction on Westbound US 50 Widening Begins Feb. 7

PUEBLO—Starting Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Colorado Department of Transportation will begin widening US 50 westbound from two to three lanes, from Wills Boulevard to mile point (MP) 312.5 near the BNSF railroad bridge. The project is scheduled to be completed by summer 2017.

Nighttime lane restrictions will be in place from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night/morning, from Tuesday, Feb. 7 through Thursday, Feb. 9. Please slow down in the construction zone and be aware of the potential for delays.

The construction zone speed limit has been reduced to 35 mph for the safety of the public and construction workers.

Construction Zone Safety Tips

  • Stay alert and give full attention to the roadway.
  • Pay close attention to signs and work zone flaggers.
  • Be patient. Work zones improve roads and make them safer.
  • Turn on headlights so workers and drivers can see your vehicle.
  • Do not tailgate; leave plenty of room for sudden stops.
  • Do not speed; slow down to the posted speed limits.

Warning to Members of the Media

The US 50 Westbound Widening project is an active construction area. Access on the project site is restricted unless accompanied by a CDOT representative. Your safety is important to us so please coordinate access requests in advance with the project team. A safe area for interviews, b-roll footage, etc., and a project team member will be designated for escort, and will coordinate the appropriate personal protective equipment. We appreciate your cooperation.
