CDOT Begins Work on US 84 South of Pagosa Springs

August 28, 2017 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Work Will Provide Better Drainage

ARCHULETA COUNTY- The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Tezak Heavy Equipment will start work on Tuesday, September 5, along US Highway (US) 84, about 13 miles south of Pagosa Springs, CO. The work will take place just north of Chromo, CO from mile point (MP) 14.17 to MP 15.17. The project will improve and prolong the culvert drainage system.

The project will primarily consist of improving the culvert drainage system, using a slip lining method of the existing culvert as well as the inlet and head walls. Work will be done in the westbound lane for about a 1 mile stretch of US 84.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Daytime work hours range from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Vehicles may be reduced to a single-lane intermittently on the eastbound lane throughout the duration of the project. Periodic lane closures, guided by flaggers, may have 5 to 15 minute delays possible. The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph through the work zone. Traffic fines in the construction zone will be doubled. The project is expected to last until mid-November.

Public access to Forest Road 653, within the project area, will remain open.
