Colorado Division of Aeronautics Receives Honorable Mention in 2016 Airports Going Green Award Program
DENVER—The Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT) Division of Aeronautics is pleased to announce that it has been distinguished with an honorable mention in the 2016 Airports Going Green Award program for the successful implementation of the Colorado General Aviation (GA) Airport Sustainability Program.
The Airports Going Green Awards program recognizes the contributions of outstanding projects, programs or people in pursuit of sustainability in the aviation industry.
Development of the Colorado GA Airport Sustainability Program began in 2014, and was officially released for use in June 2016. The Colorado GA Airport Sustainability Program was designed to help Colorado's system of 74 public-use airports become better stewards to their communities.
This revolutionary first-of-its-kind program offers Colorado airports a no-cost, easy-to-use online toolkit that allows them to develop goals, implement strategies and create a measurable sustainability plan. This program provides Colorado's airports with a solid framework to build upon, helping them become not only environmentally sustainable but economically, operationally, and socially sustainable as well.
"We are honored to receive this recognition, which underscores our Division's commitment to helping make CDOT the No. 1 DOT in the country," said Aeronautics Division Director David Ulane. "Our GA Airport Sustainability Program is an innovative and proactive leap forward to help airports be the best they can be in all aspects of doing business. This program truly has set the bar for system-wide sustainable practices."
Airports Going Green was founded nearly 10 years ago by the Chicago Department of Aviation and in a few short years has become the world's pre-eminent aviation environmental symposium—with airport and aviation industry engagement from across the globe. The award will be presented by Chicago Department of Aviation Deputy Commissioner of Environment Aaron Frame at the 9th Annual Airports Going Green Conference in Amsterdam on Nov. 1, 2016.
Colorado Aeronautical Board member and Centennial Airport CEO Robert Olislagers will be in attendance to accept the award on behalf of the Division. Centennial Airport was one of the three pilot airports in the GA Airport Sustainability Program.
