TRAVEL ALERT: US 550 Red Mt. Pass Closed
Pass is closed while crews recover a piece of heavy equipment which fell off the roadway earlier today.
If traveling between Montrose and Durango, travelers are advised that they might consider the more westerly alternate route of CO Highway 145.
Once the equipment is recovered, road shoulder repair will be required and one-lane alternating traffic can be expected.
A maintenance crew was conducting road repair earlier today, milling and patching a section of pavement just south of Ouray near Bear Creek when the incident occurred. No one was injured.
