South Academy Boulevard on-ramp improvements underway on northbound I-25

August 26, 2016 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Department of Transportation and prime contractor, Tricon 2, are constructing an acceleration lane for the South Academy Boulevard on-ramp to northbound Interstate 25.

Motorists should expect minor delays this fall on the ramp and along northbound I-25 approaching South Academy Boulevard.

For several weeks, crews will be placing embankment material and preparing the subgrade to support new asphalt widening. Most work will be performed during the day from the existing shoulder, which is now separated from vehicle traffic behind a temporary barrier wall. Motorists should anticipate vehicles entering and exiting the work zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph on mainline I-25 through the work zone.

When complete, the acceleration lane will provide motorists approximately 1,500 feet to merge onto northbound I-25. This $1.1 million project also includes drainage infrastructure and new overhead lighting. The work is anticipated to be substantially complete by November, weather-permitting.
