Mesa Avenue Bridge Over I-25 to Open for Fiesta Day Parade, Labor Day

August 29, 2016 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - PUEBLO —The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor Flatiron Constructors, Inc. are opening the Mesa Avenue Bridge over Interstate-25 from 6 a.m. September 3 to 5.

The I-25/Ilex Design-Build team understands the need for this location to be open to the traveling public during the Labor Day holiday weekend, and also for the Fiesta Day Parade happening Sunday, September 4.

Starting Tuesday, September 6, Mesa Avenue will be closed again from Elm Street to Taylor Avenue while crews continue to rehabilitate the bridge. The bridge will remain closed 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week until the end of October. Normal working hours will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Slight traffic delays are expected and alternate routes are advised. Signs detouring travelers to Northern Avenue around the closure will be in place.

The I-25 Ilex Street to City Center Drive project is the first project of the New Pueblo Freeway: the reconstruction of I-25 between City Center Drive (1st Street) and Ilex Street through downtown Pueblo. Construction includes upgrading a number of bridges south of downtown. The project began in July 2015, and is expected to be completed in 2018.
