Southbound I-25 Lane-Split Configuration on Sunday, June 19

COLORADO SPRINGS—At 8 a.m., Sunday, June 19, a temporary split lane configuration on southbound I-25 between Cimarron Street/US 24 and south Nevada Avenue/Tejon Street is required. The left two outside through lanes of southbound I-25 splits onto existing northbound pavement and the right lane of southbound I-25 splits on to the existing southbound pavement. Concrete barrier will separate the split. Northbound I-25 shifts to the east, utilizing the shoulder.

This split-lane configuration will be in place for several months to reconstruct the southbound lanes and prepare for the final alignment of I-25.

Motorists traveling on southbound I-25 need to be cautious when exiting on to south Nevada Avenue/Tejon Street as the distance to merge into the right lane has decreased. If possible, prepare to exit just north of the Cimarron/US 24 exit by using the right lane.

Drivers are Urged to Slow Down and Pay Attention.

Speeds will be reduced to 55 mph on I-25 between Colorado Avenue and south Nevada Avenue/Tejon Street. Slow down, observe speed limits, avoid distractions, and allow extra time for your commute.

Reminder: Southbound I-25 and On-Ramp Closure and Detour

Closures are required to shift traffic to the temporary southbound I-25 split-lane configuration.

PROJECT COORDINATION
The I-25 Fillmore and I-25 Cimarron Interchange Projects coordinate schedules when possible to minimize impacts to the traveling public during construction.

PROJECT INFORMATION
The $113 million I-25/Cimarron Interchange Design-Build Project involves rebuilding the I-25 interchange between Colorado Avenue on the north and South Nevada Avenue to the south, 8th Street on the west, and the Cimarron Street over Fountain Creek bridge on the east.

Improvements are intended to provide enhanced operations, correct existing safety and design deficiencies, and to serve the anticipated short- and long-term travel demands in this area. When complete, this will be a high-functioning interchange that safely handles more vehicles and enhances multi-modal travel for those using I-25, US 24/Cimarron Street and the trail system along Monument and Fountain creeks. Substantial completion is planned for fall 2017.
