Crews will begin a three-step process of sandblasting the bridge, followed by power-washing of the bridge, then completing the project by giving the bridge a new coat of paint. The project is expected to protect the bridge and add to the longevity of the bridge structure.

Minimal travel impacts are expected during this project. While crews are working on either end of the bridge, full lane closures will occur for the eastbound or westbound lanes. However, traffic will not be stopped and will be routed up and over the exit ramps. Travelers will be able to enter and exit the park at all times.

Crews will work on the bridge from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. US 160 will be fully opened to traffic outside of these hours and on the weekends. It is possible that some weekend work may be necessary if weather impacts the work schedule. The two-month project is expect to be completed by the end of July.

The $300,000 preventative maintenance project was awarded to Jita Contracting, Inc. of Durango.
