Overnight Closures: Southbound I-25 On-Ramp at US 24

May 31, 2016 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - Friday, June 3; NB I-25 Saturday, June 4

Colorado Springs –

  • The closure of the new southbound I-25 on-ramp at US 24, originally scheduled for last Thursday, has been rescheduled for Friday, June 3 from 9 p.m. – 5 a.m., due to inclement weather last week. The ramp closure is required to tie-in pavement at eastbound US 24.

TRAFFIC DETOURS:

o    Eastbound US 24 / Cimarron Street: Traffic heading eastbound on US 24 / Cimarron Street wishing to turn onto southbound I-25 will detour on southbound Nevada Avenue, back to I-25.

o    Westbound US 24 / Cimarron Street:  Traffic heading westbound on Cimarron Street wishing to turn onto southbound I-25 will detour using northbound I-25 to Bijou Street, turn left on Bijou Street, then get back onto southbound I-25.

  • Also, a full closure of northbound I-25 between the south Nevada/Tejon exit and the Cimarron/US 24 exit will take place Saturday, June 4 from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. to shift traffic in preparation for the temporary southbound I-25 split lane configuration scheduled for mid- to late-June. A single northbound I-25 left lane restriction will begin at 7 p.m.

TRAFFIC DETOUR:

o    Traffic will detour via northbound Nevada Avenue to Cimarron Street. The detour route does not support vehicles with a profile height of more than 14-feet 9-inches due to a Union Pacific Railroad overpass located on south Nevada Avenue, just east of Mill Street. Vehicles requiring a clearance height of more than 14-feet 9-inches should use an alternate route during this closure.

Motorists are advised to slow down and watch for clearly marked detour signs for directions. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

PROJECT COORDINATION: The I-25 Fillmore and I-25 Cimarron Interchange Projects coordinate schedules when possible to minimize impact to the travelling public during construction.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $113 million I-25/Cimarron Interchange Design-Build Project involves rebuilding the I-25 interchange between Colorado Avenue on the north and South Nevada Avenue to the south, 8th Street on the west and the Cimarron Street over Fountain Creek bridge on the east. Improvements are intended to provide enhanced operations, correct existing safety and design deficiencies, and to serve the anticipated short- and long-term travel demands in this area. When complete, this will be a high-functioning interchange that safely handles more vehicles and enhances multi-modal travel for those using I-25, US 24/Cimarron Street and the trail system along Monument and Fountain creeks. Substantial completion is planned for end of 2017.
