Emergency Repairs Needed on Bridge

May 6, 2016 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - One lane traffic on US 24 Arkansas Bridge near Johnson Village

CHAFFEE COUNTY - The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has closed westbound US 24 at Arkansas River Bridge due to damage on the bridge. CDOT bridge engineers are currently investigating the cause and extent of the damage.

Both east and westbound traffic have been routed onto the eastbound lane. Travelers should expect delays while traffic from each direction is reduced to a single lane alternating configuration by traffic control staff.

CDOT has not yet been determined how the damage occurred. It is anticipated that repairs will begin early next week. The bridge has been scheduled for preventative maintenance work this fall including deck repair.
