CDOT Partnership Project Completed

May 19, 2016 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Traffic Light Activated for Ignacio Intersection

IGNACIO, CO – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is pleased to announce that a new traffic light has been turned on and activated for motorists traveling through the Ignacio intersection of Colorado Highways 172 (Goddard Ave.) and 151 (Ute Street). The new signalization is a safety-improvement project which includes traffic and pedestrian signals with lighting, placement of concrete pavement, new concrete sidewalks, curb ramps, signing and striping. The project began construction on March 21 earlier this year.

“This project ran smoothly and completed about a week earlier than scheduled,” said Mike Coggins, CDOT resident engineer (Durango). “We appreciate the cooperation and patience from Ignacio residents and know the improvements will relieve traffic congestion, making this a safer intersection for motorists and pedestrians.”

This $1.6 million project is a partnership with CDOT, the Town of Ignacio ($9,333), La Plata County ($168,004) and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe ($168,004.) The work was contracted to and completed by Technology Constructors, Inc.

This is Ignacio’s second traffic signal light, and part of the Ignacio Area Corridor Access Plan.
