Overnight closures of southbound I-25 in Castle Rock as work continues on new interchange

April 22, 2016 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - It’s a sure sign construction is nearing completion when crews start work on finishing touches, such as signage. For the North Meadows Extension, that work begins next week.

Starting Monday night, crews will install the three new sign bridges for Castle Rock Parkway’s road signs. For safety reasons, part of that work will require two nighttime closures of southbound I-25.

Here’s what to know if you travel I-25 at night next week:

  • The full closure is southbound I-25 between Happy Canyon Road and Founders/Meadows Parkway. It will be from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday; and again from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.
  • The detour is Happy Canyon Road west to U.S. Highway 85, then south to Meadows
  • Parkway and east again to I-25. Please be aware, the new Castle Rock Parkway will also intersect with U.S. 85, so there will be construction along the detour route. Please drive safely.
  • Lane closures are also part of this overnight work. Double lane closures will be in place overnight Monday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday. They will also be in place prior to the full closures.

For now, crews are just installing the sign structures. The actual signs will be placed closer to the opening of the roadway later this summer.

As with any construction project in Colorado, this schedule depends on weather, and could change. For the most current information, stay tuned to message signs in the area and to the Town’s social media – Facebook.com/CRgov or @CRgov on Twitter.

Castle Rock is a growing community, and the Town is preparing for that growth with its largest transportation project ever.

The 2-mile North Meadows Extension will help improve operations at the current Founders/Meadows Parkway interchange with I-25 and the intersection of Meadows Parkway and U.S. 85. It will also provide a second northern access for residents on the west side of Town.

The project is the Town’s No. 1 transportation priority. It is a partnership among the Town, Douglas County and the Colorado Department of Transportation, with additional financial support from Castle Rock Development Co. Learn more at CRgov.com/NME.
