Three Overnight Closures of Fillmore Street This Week
The closures continue through Thursday at 5 a.m. Each night, Fillmore Street will close at 8 p.m. and I-25 will close at 9 p.m. - both reopening by 5 the next morning.
The closures are needed to allow crews to safely demolish and remove a bridge structure that is located in the center median of the interstate. Heavy construction equipment such as excavators with large hammers are expected to cause a great deal of solid debris during the demolition. The closure protects I-25 travelers from falling debris.
I-25 at Fillmore Street Closure
Each night northbound and southbound I-25 will be closed at Fillmore Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic will be diverted up and over the ramp system to detour around the demolition activities. Users of I-25 should plan for additional travel time.
Fillmore Street Closure
During the closure, access over I-25 on Fillmore Street will not be allowed. All northbound and southbound I-25 on- and off-ramps to Fillmore Street will remain open with right turn access only. Left turns and through movements from the ramps to access Fillmore Street will not be permitted during the closure. Only right turns from the off-ramp onto Fillmore Street will be allowed.
Detours and Alternate Routes
There will be signed detours along I-25 to direct motorists around the work, which will utilize the Garden of the Gods and Fontanero exits as turn-around points.
About the Construction Project
The project will convert the existing interchange into a diverging diamond interchange configuration, the second along the Front Range and the third in Colorado. The new interchange will provide a more efficient traffic flow by allowing for continuous transition on and off the highway, increasing traffic capacity and reducing conflict points at intersections. The project is approximately 76 percent complete and on schedule to be complete by summer 2016.
