Eastbound I-70 will be closed overnight at I-76 on Sunday, March 20 starting at 11 p.m. Westbound I-70 overnight closure at I-25 planned on March 21
All lanes will reopen by 5:00 a.m. Monday, in time for the morning commute. Westbound I-70 will be closed overnight on Monday, March 21 at Interstate 25. Single and double lane closures on I-70 will begin as early as 8 p.m. in advance of full closure at 11 p.m.
Detour route information follows. Both detour routes were previously used during a weekend full-closure of I-70 in July 2013. All work is weather permitting and subject to change. Visit www.cotrip.org for more information on planned highway closures including detour routes. If schedule changes occur, information will be posted on www.cotrip.org and on variable message signs along I-70.
Sunday, March 20: Eastbound I-70 will be closed from I-76 to Pecos Street (11 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.)
To detour around this closure, through traffic will use the I-70 left off-ramp to eastbound I-76 (exit 269B), travel east on I-76 for six miles, enter southbound I-25 (exit 5), travel south on I-25 for 2.5 miles and merge onto I-70. During the closure, on-ramps to eastbound I-70 from Wadsworth Boulevard (Colorado Highway 121), Harlan Street, Sheridan Boulevard (Colorado Highway 95), Lowell Boulevard and Federal Boulevard (US Highway 287) will be closed. Ramp traffic will be directed north to access the signed detour route along I-76. Ramp closures may begin as early as 10 p.m. A second eastbound I-70 full-closure may be necessary later in the week to dismantle a second eastbound sign structure.
Monday, March 21: Westbound I-70 will be closed from I-25 to Federal Boulevard (11 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.)
All westbound motorists will be detoured off I-70 at I-25 (exit 274), travel northbound on I-25 for 2.5 miles, enter westbound I-76 (exit 216B) and continue west on I-76 towards I-70. During the closure, on-ramps to westbound I-70 from I-25 and Pecos Street will be closed.
Sign bridge removal is part of the I-70 sign structure replacement project, which is nearing completion. Since January, crews have installed seven new cantilever sign structures on I-70 between Lowell Boulevard and Pecos Street. Three old sign bridges near Federal Boulevard and Pecos Street, which will be removed during overnight full closures, will be replaced by new cantilever structures.
I-70 will be subject to overnight lane closures through mid-April for sign installation. Updated information regarding this project is available on the project hotline (303) 802-6101 and www.cotrip.org.
