Weight Restriction Placed on Highway 10 Bridge

February 2, 2016 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - OTERO COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has placed a weight restriction on the Crooked Arroyo Bridge (mile 69.675), on State Highway 10, just west of La Junta.

A recent structure inspection required CDOT to lower the weight limit on the 77-year-old bridge from 80,000 pounds to 60,000 pounds.

Highway 10 is a designated hazardous materials route, used not only by hazmat trucks but by other heavy vehicles.  To minimize impacts from this restriction, CDOT has designated State Highway 71 and U.S. 350 as the detour around the bridge, which increases the route length about 13 miles.

The restriction will remain in place until further notice.

CDOT is scheduled to replace the bridge in 2018.
