US 287 to LaPorte Bypass project starts Monday
Larimer County – Drivers along US 287 north of Fort Collins will start seeing construction beginning Monday on the two-year project that will more than double the current width of the road to the LaPorte Bypass, including a roundabout at that intersection.
Construction will begin with site preparation to include survey, staking and clearing the right-of-way and erosion control installation. Minimal impact to traffic is anticipated during the start-up phase. Traffic impacts will be minimized throughout the project as the majority of the work will be performed off the existing roadway but some activities will require flaggers and construction crews to work in close proximity to traffic flow and cause delays.
CDOT will construct and widen US 287 just north of Fort Collins City limits beginning at State Highway 1 (Terry Lake Road) to the intersection of CR 54G (LaPorte Bypass). The existing two- lane asphalt road will be replaced with four through-lanes, center turning lane, 10-foot shoulder/bike lanes of concrete pavement and 7-foot-wide concrete sidewalks.
The LaPorte Bypass signalized intersection will be replaced with a 228-foot roundabout. A sound barrier wall will also be installed for the Terry Lake Mobile Home Park.
This $21 million project will improve traffic flow as well as provide safe walkways for pedestrians. The project will provide increased safety for the traveling public as well as an aesthetically pleasing entrance to the North College corridor.
Completion of the project in the fall of 2018 will be the final step in having US 287 four lanes (two in each direction) from Broomfield to LaPorte. The US 287 widening project began in the 1990s in Broomfield and will reach final completion at the LaPorte Bypass in the fall 0f 2018.
Information regarding construction progress will be distributed throughout the project.
