Temporary Lane Configuration and Multiple Lane Restrictions on US 36 This Weekend

January 28, 2016 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - UPDATED - Change in Work Hours - Lane restrictions planned between Broomfield and Westminster.

WESTMINSTER/BROOMFIELD – As part of the US 36 Express Lanes Project, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be doing concrete work this weekend. To accommodate this effort, multiple lane restrictions will be in place from Federal to Sheridan Boulevard starting at 10 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, through 9 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 31. One lane will remain open at all times. Triple lane restrictions will take place from 1-6 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 30.

“Drivers will need to be extra cautious and pay attention to signage when traveling on US 36 this weekend,” said CDOT Project Director Scott Rees. “We advise drivers to plan extra travel time when driving through the area this weekend or take an alternate route.”

CDOT will also realign westbound traffic between Wadsworth Parkway and West Flatiron Crossing into a temporary split-lane configuration (shown below) from 9 a.m.–9 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30.

Weekend Temporary Alignment

To accommodate motorists and maintain two lanes of traffic, all tolls will be waived on westbound US 36 while the temporary alignment is in place. The temporary alignment is needed to complete concrete repair work.

The US 36 Express Lanes Project is a multi-modal project that is building an express lane in each direction on US 36, in addition to the two free general purpose lanes. The Express Lanes accommodate High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which started running in January 2016, and tolled vehicles. In addition, the project is replacing several bridges, building a commuter bikeway, adding BRT improvements, and installing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for tolling, transit and traveler information, and incident management. Phase 1, from Federal Boulevard to 88th Street in Louisville/Superior, opened in July 2015. Phase 2, from 88th Street to Table Mesa Drive in Boulder, is on track to be completed in early 2016.
